Austin is experiencing record cedar pollen counts, the highest in the last 16 years. My nose goes from feeling like it's full of cement to being a snot faucet. And my eyes are crusting shut at night with eye goop. Antihistamines do little, Sudafed does little, Afrin does little, and blowing my nose is an exercise in futility. Please, make it stop.

Try Claritin D, it's behind the counter. Just tell the pharmacist you want the D. It works pretty good for a while for me anyway.

My best to you.

I'm no pharmacist, so you're really reaching if you want medical advice from me. Only thing I can say then is to isolate yourself from the source:

This weekend was ridiculously bad. I've had the best luck with HEB's generic zyrtec stuff, but I've never found anything that really does a good job with that cedar shit.

My nose is not that bad - just a little coughing and sneezing. However I have some serious brain fog. I can barely think - I'm not really sleepy, just cloudy.

Others feel your pain

Sadly tree sex is....messier than human sex. More collateral damage.

Claritan-D is the only half-way help I'm sorry to say. I fell into this site today as I was

in my own misery.

Exactly. I slept pretty well last night, and I woke up feeling like I hadn't slept at all.

HEB is what I'm taking. I just got back from there, and my nose is actually pretty good at the moment. It will be interesting to see if it get significantly worse in my house. I'm probably allergic to my house.

Serious: Try Claritin D first like someone else said, it's heavy duty stuff. It'll also dry your sinuses out like hell, but it's better than a snot faucet.

Then, get a test for food sensitivity. Google it, you can usually go to an allergist and get it done for <$100. Your body uses the same histamine to battle foods you are sensitive to as it does to battle environmental allergens. Odds are, you are eating a food daily that you are sensitive to (not allergic), and that is exhausting your body's ammo before it can begin to fight environmental allergens. My story: Once I stopped drinking milk last summer my allergies went away- I was sensitive to milk and drinking my big glass of milk every morning meant that I shot myself in the foot each day. Now I still sneeze around cats and I still have a crappy few weeks early each spring, but it's worlds better than before. Ending allergies can be as simple as getting a quick blood test and cutting a few foods out of your diet, I highly suggest you give it a shot if you really are that miserable.

I first found out about food sensitivity when I read a story about a guy in Austin who was miserable every day of his life because of allergies. I think Austin is like the allergy capital of the universe. Good luck.

Not saying food sensitivity tests are a bad idea if you have chronic problems, but this is Cedar season in Austin and a lot of us are miserable:

Yeah, I keep my place super sealed-up in January. Don't want that green shit sticking to everything and bugging me all year.
